Created for 8th – 10th grade girls who are interested in government and community activism. They will learn how local government works, how they can get involved and how to create the change they wish to see in their communities.
Through this one week experience, the girls will:
-Explore their talents with other like-minded girls.
-Flex their leadership muscles.
-Learn from women leaders.
-Participate in giving back to their community.
- The girls will determine a community issue they want to address and go about doing the research and learning how to go about creating the change they wish to see. By the end of the week, they will have an action plan they could actually carry our in the community. In fact, that will be a topic of discussion is working on actually carrying out their plan in the fall.
Each day the girls will hear from different women guest speakers ranging from chiefs of staff, candidates, office holders, community activists, etc. They will take the lessons they’ve learned to create:
- A political campaign with a slogan, marketing ideas and finance plan.
- Create a law they would like to see passed in their community.
- An advocacy plan for a change they would like to see in their communities.
