Hackathon Coordination Roles
Adult Volunteers | Planning & Day-Of Support
Positions needed on June 23rd, July 1st and July 2nd. You will be able to select which day(s) you are available.
Event Operations (3-4)
Role Overview:
Supports the overall logistics and flow of the hackathon to ensure a smooth and professional experience for participants, mentors, and guests.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with setup and breakdown
- Support registration and check-in
- Monitor schedule and transitions
- Help troubleshoot logistical issues
- Coordinate materials and supplies
Ideal For:
- Detail-oriented professionals
- Event planners
- Operations managers
- Anyone who thrives behind the scenes
Time Commitment:
Pre-event briefing + event day(s) June 23rd, July 1st & July 2nd.
Shifts will be broken into half days. 8:00am – 12pm and 12pm – 5:00pm
Team Support & Mentor Liaison (3-4)
Role Overview:
Serves as a point of contact for team mentors and ensures student teams have what they need throughout the hackathon.
Responsibilities:
- Check in with mentors and teams
- Help manage time checkpoints
- Support conflict resolution if needed
- Reinforce event expectations
- Keep energy and morale high
Ideal For:
- Educators
- HR professionals
- Coaches or team leaders
- Individuals comfortable guiding group dynamics
Time Commitment:
June 23rd, July 1st & July 2nd.

Workshop & Program Support Volunteer (3-4)
Role Overview:
Supports facilitators and speakers during structured sessions and activities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with materials distribution
- Support small group discussions
- Help manage Q&A and transitions
- Provide general participant support
Ideal For:
- Professionals comfortable in learning environments
- Corporate volunteers
- Individuals with facilitation experience
Time Commitment:
June 23rd, July 1st & July 2nd.

Industry Experts
Role Overview:
– Industry Experts serve as rotating mentors during our Mentor Roundtable Session, where high school participants engage directly with women professionals working in construction, engineering, sustainability, skilled trades, and related industries.
– This is a high-impact, high-visibility role designed to expose young women to real career pathways while providing encouragement, insight, and practical advice.
– Industry Experts do not judge and do not lead teams. They engage in guided small-group conversations.
Ideal For:
- Corporate professionals
- Public relations or communications professionals
- Individuals comfortable hosting and engaging guests
Time Commitment:
Approximately 1.5–2 hours (arrival, briefing, roundtable session, optional lunch panel attendance)
Participant Experience Volunteer
Role Overview:
Focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students.
Responsibilities:
- Encourage participants
- Help students feel comfortable
- Support nervous presenters
- Reinforce inclusive culture
- Provide general assistance throughout the day
Ideal For:
- Professionals passionate about youth development
- Individuals who enjoy mentoring
- Community advocates

JUDGE ROLES
Adult Professionals | Evaluation & Feedback
Judges play a vital role in encouraging participants and providing meaningful feedback. This is not a “Shark Tank” environment – it is supportive, developmental, and growth-focused.
Hackathon Judge – High School Event (June 23rd)
Role Overview:
Evaluate team presentations and provide constructive, encouraging feedback to high school participants.
Responsibilities:
- Review pitch criteria
- Listen to team presentations
- Score based on provided rubric
- Provide brief verbal encouragement
- Participate in winner selection discussion
Ideal For:
- Professionals in construction, engineering, sustainability, business, trades, STEM, or leadership roles
- Individuals comfortable evaluating ideas and speaking in front of groups
Time Commitment:
June 23rd 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Hackathon Judge – College Sustainability Event (July 2nd)
Role Overview:
Evaluate more advanced sustainability-focused team solutions and provide professional-level feedback.
Responsibilities:
- Review solutions aligned with climate, biodiversity, or community resilience tracks
- Score based on innovation, feasibility, impact, and collaboration
- Ask thoughtful questions
- Provide developmental feedback
- Support final award decisions
Ideal For:
- Sustainability professionals
- Engineers
- Climate or environmental leaders
- Corporate professionals
- Strategy or innovation leaders
Time Commitment:
July 2nd 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Lead Judge
Role Overview:
Facilitates judge discussion and ensures fair scoring.
Responsibilities:
- Guide deliberation process
- Ensure scoring consistency
- Support final decision-making
- Announce awards (if desired)
Ideal For:
- Senior leaders
- Executives
- Experienced panel moderators
Time Commitment:
