Future Makers: Careers Shaping Tomorrow is a free career exploration program for high school young women who are curious about STEM, innovation, sustainability, and the careers shaping tomorrow’s world. Through workplace visits, conversations with women professionals, and interactive experiences, you’ll discover exciting career paths while building confidence and connections that can help shape your future.
Whether you already know what you want to do after high school or you’re still exploring, this program is designed to help you see what’s possible.
What You'll Experience
Over three Saturday sessions, you’ll:
- Explore careers that are helping build a more sustainable future
- Meet women working in STEM, innovation, and sustainability
- Visit workplaces
- Ask questions and hear real career journeys
- Connect with other high school girls who share your curiosity
- Create your own Career Portfolio to help you reflect on what you’ve learned
- Present your discoveries during a celebration and showcase at the end of the program
Program Topics
Throughout the program, you’ll explore careers in:
- Energy Transition: Discover how technology and innovation are transforming the way the world produces and uses energy.
- Sustainability & Innovation: Explore how technology, artificial intelligence, and creative problem-solving are helping solve some of the world’s biggest challenges.

- High school young women in grades 9–12
- Students who enjoy learning and trying new experiences
- Girls interested in STEM, innovation, sustainability, business, or leadership
- Students who are still figuring out what they want to do after high school
No previous experience is required. Curiosity is all you need!

Location: Houston-area SLB locations
Schedule: Three Saturday sessions (Oct. 3rd, Nov. 7th and Dec. 5th from 9AM – 1PM each session) Attendance to all sessions is required.

No! Thanks to the generous support of SLB, there is no cost to participate. The program, meals, snacks, materials and activities are provided free of charge.

Yes. Because each session builds on the previous one, students are expected to attend all three sessions.
No. We'll provide all program materials, including your Career Portfolio. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn!
Throughout the program, you'll complete a Career Portfolio that helps you organize what you've learned, reflect on careers that interest you, and think about possible pathways after high school.
Yes, but don't worry! During the final session, you'll give a short 3 minute presentation about what you learned during the program. We'll provide guidance throughout the program to help you prepare, and you can choose to present using a digital presentation, a poster, or a one-page visual.
Absolutely. All activities are supervised by Nerdy Girl Success staff and approved volunteers. Industry professionals and partners support the educational experience during workplace visits and presentations.
Comfortable, Business-Casual clothing and closed toe shoes are recommended. Depending on the workplace being visited, additional guidance may be provided before each session.
Yes! Meals and refreshments will be provided during each session.
Students complete a short application. Selection is based on interest, commitment to attending all sessions, and creating a cohort that represents a variety of schools and backgrounds.
Yes! Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and leave with a Career Portfolio showcasing what they learned.
